Experience:
Corin specialises in Immigration law, Human Rights law and both Immigration and Prison law Judicial Review.
Prior to joining Kenworthy's Chambers, Corin spent many years working in Law and Advice centres, including the Immigration Advisory Service (IAS), where he was a Supervising Counsellor and a member of their National Legal Policy Group. He also worked for Merseyside Immigration Advice Unit (MIAU), Rochdale Law Centre and Liverpool City Centre Citizens Advice Bureau.
Immigration practice:
Corin has considerable experience of advising and appearing as an advocate on the whole range of Immigration and Refugee law matters. In addition to appearing before the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal and the higher courts his practice involves advising on Judicial Review proceedings.
Corin's practice at the Bar benefits considerably from his many years experience of advising and acting for clients from first instructions through to appearing as an advocate. As well as experience in Law Centres, he has worked in a Legal Services Commission (LSC) specialist firm of solicitors.
Corin's interest lies in Human Rights law, both national and international and its application to his practice area. With regard to his Judicial Review practice, he is available to advise on Immigration and Prison law matters.
In February 2010, Corin Timson was appointed as a Judge of the First-tier Tribunal. Corin will continue to practice from Chambers and in addition will sit as a Fee Paid Judge of the new Tribunal.
Together with his legal qualifications, Corin holds an honours degree in African Studies. He has a particular interest in the political economy of Sub Saharan Africa and has travelled widely throughout the world. He maintains a keen interest in international affairs and human rights issues.
Corin's approach is to work as part of a team to get the best outcome for the client. He is proud to have been one of the founding members of the Immigration team at Kenworthy's and along with his colleagues to be part of its development into probably the largest dedicated team of immigration practitioners in the North of England. He is a member of the Constitutional and Administrative Law Bar Association (ALBA) and the Immigration Law Practitioners Association (ILPA).
Corin accepts instructions to appear throughout the United Kingdom and is happy to hold conferences at the practices of those who instruct him, when this is more convenient for clients.
Lecture experience:
Corin lectures and trains in his specialist areas of law both as part of Kenworthy's lecture series and outside of chambers. He has provided training for the JCWI, ILPA and the College of Law.
