Experience:
Shazia practises Immigration law. Prior to joining Chambers in January 2008, she worked as an immigration counsellor with the Immigration Advisory Service in Leeds where she regularly presented immigration and asylum appeals before the Tribunal. She also worked for the Refugee Legal Centre in Leeds as an appeals caseworker. Following this, Shazia qualified as a barrister with No.6 Chambers in Leeds and continued her work in the Tribunal whilst also developing her practice in the High Court and the Court of Appeal.
Shazia is fluent in Urdu, Punjabi and popular Hindi and can conduct legal interviews in these languages.

Immigration practice:
Shazia's practise consists of Asylum, Immigration and Human Rights Law.
She has experience of dealing with cases in the tribunal, the High Court and the Court of Appeal. She presents appeals at first instance and reconsideration stage, has experience of judicial review work and is willing to draft grounds for reconsideration to the Tribunal. She also has experience of applying for emergency injunctions to duty High Court Judges over the telephone and has drafted grounds and appeared in cases in the Court of Appeal.
Shazia has experience in Family law, ranging from committal proceedings to care proceedings. She has combined both areas of practice and can give advice to solicitors on cases involving both areas.
Shazia is currently involved in the Manuel Brovo project, a charity seeking to provide legal representation to asylum seekers. She assisted the charity by training and co-ordinating commercial lawyers from such firms like DLA, Eversheds and Hammonds solicitors. She is also involved with the Pro Bono Unit at the College of Law based in York. She has presented appeals for the Unit on a Pro Bono capacity.
Shazia is a member of ILPA, Liberty and Amnesty International.
